An Attempt at Semi-Regular Posting

I'm going to try to attempt to post at a more normal rate this year.  Last year was filled with so much craziness and such that I never got much time to really post anything more than a "What's going on with me" post every few months.  I'm starting to get back into a more normal schedule, and I really want to make time to muse more often and write about it here.  I like to get feedback on my ideas and thoughts, so this seems like a good place to do it.

I feel like I've been very productive today, plus, I ended up with a 6-day weekend to help me rest up and recover from my Christmas break.  Blount Co. ended up getting called off for the weather last friday, had MLK Day on Monday, and then was called again for snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving me with a six day weekend!  w00t w00t!  Working for the school system does have it's perks.  :)

Today I successfully set up skype on my now FUNCTIONAL laptop and had a super fun video chat with Ryan!  It's very nice to be able to see his face and talk to him at the same time.  I'm planning on taking Feb. 13th off and and driving up to visit him.  I'm off that following Monday, too, so if he's off from school that day, I may stay long enough to have brunch with him before I head back to Maryville.  Hooray for fun long weekends!  :D

I'm getting increasingly more pumped up for tour this weekend!  Chandler, my little cousin, and her fam may come hear our send off concert tomorrow night, so that would be great fun to visit with her, and I'm very proud for her and my family to hear my choir.  I'll try to borrow some video from one of my friends and post in on here so you all can hear us too!  :D

Chandler lent me New Moon on Sunday and I've had a blast reading it.  I'm almost halfway through it as of last night, and if she comes to the concert tomorrow night, I may ask her to bring Eclipse with her so I can read that one on tour (as it seems likely that I may finish New Moon before we even leave)!

Alright, well, I must be off now.  I've been in the library for the past 4.5 hours, so I should probably head towards my house.  I'll try to update again soon!

Hello

Hi all!

I hope everyone is doing well!  I've been very busy lately, and unfortunately haven't had much time to update.  I hope everyone had a most excellent New Year's!  I surely did.

Ryan's visit to my house was nice as always, especially since he got to stay with me for about 8 days.  I've had 2 weather days off from school this month, for which I am grateful.  I didn't get as much rest as I would've liked over Christmas break, so 2 unexpected days off were great...the first one was for snow (which my part of the county didn't see, but the mountainous regions did), and the second, which occured yesterday, was for below zero wind chill factors, which Blount Co. deemed too cold for kids to wait on the bus.  Thus, I have had a 4 day weekend, with Monday's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday.  Hooray!

The shiny new laptop I received for Christmas decided to go crazy on me and refuses to recognize my keyboard or mouse, so I've been forced to spend an unfortunately long amount of time on the phone with Dell tech support.  I've been talking to lots of people in India, who've actually been very helpful, despite all the stereotypes you hear, however, it's getting someone on the phone to talk to that seems to be the problem.  Dell doesn't seem to want to call you back until over an hour after you've asked them to call you, and when you get tired of waiting on them to call you and you call them, it always seems to be during their busy hours and you have to wait on hold for 20+ minutes before you get to talk to a real person.  It's been a rather frustrating ordeal.  I'm contemplating getting up early Monday morning and calling them...hopefully I'll have my issues solved by the time I have to head to the college for the MLK day celebration.  VOP will be singing in it, and I'm very excited to be able to be a part of a celebration of the life of a great reconciler of the races.  Speaking of racial reconciliation, if anyone's interested in a great book on the topic, you should really check out More Than Equals: Racial Healing for the Sake of the Gospel by Spencer Perkins and Chris Rice.  I just finished it this week.  The book has caused me to praise God for the great strides made in race relations among Christians, and weep greatly for the shortcomings of so many Christians in this area.  It's encouraged me to keep pressing on in this area, and to pray for how God would use me to be a reconciler in His Name.

This past wednesday, I was able to catch a movie with one of my best buddies, Chandler, who also happens to be one of my many cousins.  For the longest time, she's been after me to read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.  I'd been a bit skeptical...I'm not much on vampire novels, and I'd heard mixed reviews of the series.  However, several of my friends really enjoyed the series, as well as many of my current and former YOKE kids (Chandler falling into the former YOKE kid category).  Well, after much prodding, I put the audiobook on hold at the Blount Co. library.  Due to the great popularity of the series, it took over a month for me to get my hands on it!  Once I started listening though, I probably finished it in about 4 days.  I really enjoyed it!  I was very pleasantly surprised with how much I really did enjoy it.  When I finished, it wasn't quite the overjoyed WOW reaction I had when I finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, but I am very ready to read New Moon, the next novel in the series.  All this being said, Chandler and I went to see Twilight Wednesday evening.  I was very pleased with how closely the movie followed the book.  I am also going to agree with Steph and Sarah and say that Jasper indeed does look like ALL the guys of NSYNC at one time.  I laughed hysterically every time he came on screen!  Good stuff.  I can't wait for Chandler to lend me her copy of New Moon tomorrow.  I'll probably read every spare moment there afterwards, heehee.

VOP tour is coming up this coming weekend and I'm stoked!!!  Be praying for us as we travel and lead others in worship!  Pray also, much less importantly, that my new iPod makes it to my house in time!  Unfortunately, my other one died a couple months ago, and I've been saving some money to buy another.  I bought a refurbished 80G black iPod classic, which was a good bit cheaper than buying a new one.  The other good thing about buying a refurbished one was that it comes w/ a year warranty, and I can also buy the Apple Care extended warranty.  I wish I had done that with my old one, which would've gotten me a free replacement when it broke.  As much as I use mine, it's well worth it.  I mean, really, that's how I learn my music for VOP, and just simply rock out, heehee.  It's amazing how attached we get to our little gadgets, isn't it?

Anyway, I'm off now, but I hope everyone is well!

My Life

Hello, all!

I hope you all have had a very merry Christmas and have enjoyed your time off from work/school/etc.  I haven't been my usual joyful self lately, and that's my fault.  God and I are working on that.

I recieved a very nice new shiny laptop for Christmas, and I'm very excited about it.  I've transferred all my music and pictures from the desktop to it, but Dad still hasn't gotten the wireless set up in the house yet, so I've not gotten to do internet-type things from it yet.  At least from my house, anyway.  I took it to McAllister's with me friday night when I hung out w/ my lifelong friend, Mary.  (We've been friends since we were 3)!  I was able to get all the security updates I needed, as well as iTunes, and download my free digital copies of The Dark Knight and Prince Caspian that came with my DVD copies under the tree.

Ryan is coming to visit tomorrow and I am so excited!!!!!  He'll get to stay with me for about a week or so, which will be very nice.  We've got a few ideas for things to do, but the first one, which is very exciting, is having Lizzie and Andrew over for a New Year's Eve bash!  w00t w00t!  Yummy PiƱa Pollo for dinner, fondue, sparkling juice, and lots of fun game time!  (Definitely some Rook and perhaps a few other games!)  We also plan on taking lots of cute pictures, so be on the look out for such awesomeness!

Anyway, off to clean up the house now, but I hope everyone's had a fabulous Christmas and will have an excellent New Year, filled with God's blessings!

Love to you all!

Ash

Update!

Want to know how I'm doing?  The answer is simply this--blessed.

Where I have lost things, God has filled the gap.

I've battled long and hard over the past few months with my self-worth.  God is winning that battle, but please, encourage me, if you feel led.  I need it.

I really enjoy my TA-ing job, and I can now sub 2 afternoons a week, if needed.

Ryan is still my hero, and I am blessed to call him my fella.  (I get to see him next weekend!  w00t!)

I have many true friends who have stood by me in the past few months when I've been so wounded and broken.  Their love and support has meant more to me than they realize.

My church has a new pastor, and he and his family are awesome.  :)

Voices of Praise (otherwise known as VOP, my multicultural Gospel choir), lead worship at my very white, very traditional Southern Baptist church full of old people this past Sunday morning.  THE CHURCH LOVED IT!!!

God is really good, as always.  Don't you forget it.
